We here at, Artisan Obscura, are all about falling in love with photography, specifically, one's camera.

Our goal is to create products that serve both form and function. Products with purpose, that either protect vital electrical components and heighten your shutter action. Products whose form oozes passion and that will make you fall ever deeper in love with your camera. By blending premium materials with timeless craftsmanship and finishing, we are able to merge all the function you need with unparalleled style and class.

2012

Like many things, the idea for Artisan Obscura came in the midst of a conversation while on a road trip taking about passion and picture making. (Co-owner) Steve Stanton being a woodworker himself was in love with all things wood, while (co-owner) Preston Utley was addicted to all things camera. As they drove, rough ideas started to form around what the merging of these two passions would look like. As with all good and long discussions, the questions got deeper and more heart driven until they unearthed the very question that would shape this new company's vision...

Would being able to personalize ones camera help invigorate a passion within a photographer to take more pictures, and better yet, fall in love with the act of picture making?

2013

Artisan Obscura was born. Officially launched in March. Successfully creating the world's first solid wood soft release and engineered a tapered thread that would fit universally across most any camera.

2014

Artisan Obscura continued to grow, doubling in size and expanding their product line including custom Hot Shoe Covers.

2015

Things are continuing to grow like crazy, and we are excited to release several new product lines throughout the year.

Quick History of our beloved Logo...

Our logo, a horse in stride, is taken from a sequence of photographs made by 19th century photographer Eadweard Muybridge one of the most prolific problem solvers in the history of photography. This image and its history continues to inspire us to create products that inspire and ignite the passion to take more pictures.
